Secrets Playa Mujeres: What to Know Before You Book
An honest look at Secrets Playa Mujeres—from Preferred Club upgrades to standout dining and who this adults-only, all-inclusive escape near Cancun is truly best for.
April 15, 2026
Secrets Playa Mujeres is one of the top adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, and this review covers everything you need to know before booking. Located in the gated Playa Mujeres community north of Cancún, this beachfront resort is designed for travelers who want easy, relaxed luxury without a party-heavy atmosphere.
I recently stayed at Secrets Playa Mujeres to experience it firsthand. This review is an honest look at what the resort does well, who it's best for, and a few things to consider before booking. If you're wondering how far Secrets Playa Mujeres is from the Cancún airport, whether Preferred Club is worth it, or how the food and beach actually are, this guide will walk you through it all.
Arrival & First Impressions: Secrets Playa Mujeres Review
From the moment you arrive, Secrets Playa Mujeres sets the tone for a relaxing, polished stay. My traveling party and I were greeted with cool towels, a glass of champagne, and light snacks—a small but appreciated detail after the flight and 40-minute drive from the Cancún airport.
The overall atmosphere of the resort feels refined but not stiff. Service is warm, attentive, and genuinely approachable. Staff members are present and helpful but never hovering—luxury without the formality.
It feels like luxury without the formality.
Because it's a relatively compact resort, getting around is refreshingly easy. Moving between your room, the pools, and most restaurants is quick and convenient. A few dining venues and the theater sit slightly farther away and require a short golf cart ride, but wait times are minimal, so it never feels disruptive.
If you'd like to visit Dreams Playa Mujeres next door, it's just a quick two-minute golf cart ride, making it effortless to enjoy additional dining and amenities.
Rooms at Secrets Playa Mujeres: Spacious, Renovated, and Worth the Upgrade
The guest rooms at Secrets Playa Mujeres are spacious and recently renovated, making them comfortable for both short stays and longer getaways. One detail I particularly appreciated was the Hyatt Inclusive app, which allows guests to manage everything from ordering room service to requesting luggage assistance or a late checkout, all without picking up the phone.
Another fun and practical touch is the in-room Secret Box for discreet room service delivery. You can order breakfast or late-night bites and have them placed in the box while you stay comfortably in your robe, uninterrupted.
I strongly recommend upgrading to an ocean view or pool view room. Garden-view rooms on the south side of the resort, particularly those closer to Dreams Playa Mujeres, can experience more noise during the day due to proximity to family areas and children. While this won't bother every traveler, it's worth noting if quiet is a priority.
That said, the most standout accommodations at Secrets Playa Mujeres are the Preferred Club beachfront rooms with private pools. These rooms offer an added layer of privacy and serenity that elevates the experience, making them an excellent choice for travelers celebrating a special occasion or simply wanting something more exclusive.
Preferred Club guests also enjoy access to the Preferred Club Lounge, which includes a private oceanfront pool, a comfortable indoor gathering space with TVs (perfect for catching a game), and a dedicated bar. Guests also have access to an exclusive specialty restaurant serving elevated Mexican cuisine, offering a more refined dining option within the resort.
Secrets Playa Mujeres Dining: Consistently Good, With a Few Standouts
Secrets Playa Mujeres offers a solid dining experience, with multiple restaurants included in the all-inclusive plan. The only restaurant requiring reservations is the hibachi venue; all others operate on a walk-in basis.
The Italian restaurant stood out as the guest favorite during my stay, and it lived up to the hype. Dishes like the burrata, osso buco, beef tenderloin, and tiramisù were well executed and satisfying. Portions across the resort tend to be smaller, which actually works in your favor, leaving room to enjoy multiple courses without feeling overstuffed.
The Market Café buffet is another strong option for easy, flexible dining, offering more than a standard all-inclusive spread. Expect custom pasta stations, sushi, a ceviche bar, tacos, a crudité station, and a wide variety of warm dishes.
Staying at Secrets Playa Mujeres also gives you access to restaurants at neighboring Dreams Playa Mujeres, where the French restaurant and Brazilian steakhouse are particularly popular—and were two personal favorites during my stay.
Pools, Beach & Activities: Easy, Social, and Uncomplicated
One of the things Secrets Playa Mujeres does especially well is simplicity. The resort layout is open and easy to navigate, with fewer pools than larger all-inclusive resorts, which actually makes it easier to settle in and meet people. On a warm afternoon, the main pool hums with laughter and clinking glasses, cold drinks arrive poolside before you've finished applying sunscreen, and the turquoise Caribbean stretches just beyond the lounge chairs—close enough to hear the waves between conversations. The sand is fine and white, the water calm and swimmable, and the seaweed that plagues some Cancún-area beaches was minimal during my visit.
There's a lively swim-up bar, a beachfront bar, and light daytime activities like pool and beach volleyball. Golfers and tennis players will also appreciate the nearby facilities available within the Playa Mujeres community. A nice perk is that your green fees are covered so all you're responsible for are the golf-cart fees and any club rentals.
Days here are quiet and unhurried: reading by the pool, chatting at the bar, enjoying the beach, followed by a relaxed dinner and perhaps a cocktail afterward. This is not a late-night party resort, and that is very much the point.
Who Is Secrets Playa Mujeres Best For? Final Thoughts on This Luxury All-Inclusive Resort
Secrets Playa Mujeres is best for couples seeking a quiet, adults-only all-inclusive Mexico escape, frequent all-inclusive travelers who value a tranquil experience, golfers and tennis players looking to fit in a round before relaxing by the pool, and groups of friends celebrating milestones. During my stay, there were multiple 40th birthday trips happening at once.
Weddings are another natural fit here. During my stay, I paused a stroll along the shore to catch a sunset ceremony—toes-in-the-sand seating, tiki torches lining the aisle, the sky turning pink and gold over the Caribbean. It was effortlessly elegant. With its beachfront setting, spacious grounds, and relaxed yet polished atmosphere, Secrets Playa Mujeres offers a beautiful backdrop for destination weddings and celebrations. If you're considering a destination wedding in Cancún, I'd love to walk you through venue options, group booking perks, and how to coordinate the details.
How does Secrets Playa Mujeres compare to other Cancún all-inclusives?
Days at Secrets Playa Mujeres settle into an easy rhythm—reading by the pool, chatting at the bar, enjoying the beach, followed by a relaxed dinner and perhaps a cocktail afterward. While you can find options for late-night dancing, this is not a late-night party resort, and that is very much the point.
It trades the mega-resort energy of the Hotel Zone for a quieter, more refined setting in Playa Mujeres. If you want nonstop nightlife, look elsewhere. If you want to wake up refreshed and unhurried every morning, this is your resort.
