Faena Miami Beach: Inside Miami Beach's Most Theatrical Luxury Beachfront Hotel
I toured Faena Miami Beach's $60,000-a-night penthouse and other top suites during an insider visit — here's an honest look at who this perfectly overdone, Forbes Five-Star property is really for.
October 2, 2026
When people search for a luxury beachfront hotel in Miami Beach, they find a lot of the same thing: white marble, neutral tones, an ocean view, and a room you've already forgotten by checkout.
Polished, predictable, and interchangeable. Faena Miami Beach is not that hotel.
I got an inside look at Faena through a private event for top travel advisors, touring the penthouse and top suites with the hotel's own team. As a luxury travel advisor placing travelers in high-end properties across Miami and beyond, I know what separates a great suite from one that just photographs well. Faena is the real thing.
I walked in expecting bold. What I didn't expect was how well it would all work together — not chaotic, not costume-y, just unapologetically luxurious and perfectly overdone.
Stepping Inside The Faena Experience
Walk into Faena and you walk straight back into the '50s and '60s: Old Hollywood glamour, updated just enough that it never feels like a set piece. The ceilings shimmer, the velvet is blood-red, and you half expect someone in a tuxedo to hand you a martini on your way in.
The show starts in The Cathedral, Faena's soaring main entrance, where floor-to-ceiling murals cover every wall in so much detail you'll catch something new each time you pass through — the first sign that the whole hotel works like a living art museum. Keep walking past Pao, the ocean-view restaurant, and you'll meet Faena's most famous resident: Damien Hirst's woolly mammoth skeleton, gilded in 24-karat gold. Beyond it: the pool, the retro Beach Club with red-and-white-striped umbrellas lined up on the sand, and the Atlantic.
Faena is loud — bold reds, bright blues, animal print, gold everywhere. On paper it sounds like too much. In person, it isn't. Every piece filling the lobby to the 179 guest rooms and suites has been coordinated, and the effect is more sophisticated than it has any right to be. You don't feel like you're visiting a theme park version of glamour. You feel like you belong in the scene.
That polish isn't just aesthetic. Faena holds a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating and two Michelin Keys.
The Suites: Art Deco Meets the Tropics
The maximalism doesn't stop at the elevator. These suites are for people who want their surroundings to reflect how they actually travel, not a hotel's idea of inoffensive taste.
The suites are Art Deco meets the tropics meets the unexpected: cherry reds against aqua blues, gold pineapple lamps and palm-inspired art alongside cheetah and zebra prints, pieces of coral, stacks of coffee table books, thick stage-ready curtains. The furniture is dramatic, the light fixtures are showstoppers, and plush sofas share the space with deep soaking tubs that gaze out over the turquoise Atlantic.
Huge windows frame the water and tie it all together — the reds inside echo the striped umbrellas on the beach below. It feels like a designer's home, not a hotel room pretending to have personality.
Faena's luxury oceanfront suites run from junior up to four bedrooms, covering almost every kind of trip. The Saxony Oceanfront Two-Bedroom Suite runs approximately 1,200 square feet and carries the same design DNA as the rest of the hotel, scaled to a more intimate footprint, with rates starting around $2,000 per night. The Premier Oceanfront Three-Bedroom Suite steps up to around 1,800 square feet, enough room for a family or a small group without losing any of the drama, starting around $3,000 per night. The Premier Oceanfront Four-Bedroom Suite, at roughly 2,400 square feet, gives a larger group serious room to spread out, with rates from around $3,500 per night.
The larger suites work beautifully for multigenerational families, friend trips, milestone birthdays, and bachelor or bachelorette weekends — every one includes butler service, which makes a real difference at group scale.
Inside the Penthouse: 14,500 Square Feet of Perfection Well Done
All of those elements carry over into the Faena Penthouse Suite, and then some.
You walk in and feel like you've stepped into a Hollywood director's mansion. The cool of the Italian terrazzo floors hits you first, and afternoon light falls across the grand piano tucked into the corner against floor-to-ceiling windows — nothing but open ocean behind it. The main living room is all white and gold: animal-print couches, gold statues, a chandelier overhead that catches the light and scatters it throughout the space.
The décor may steal the show, but the scale is what stays with you. The penthouse sprawls across two floors and roughly 14,500 square feet, with five king-bedded rooms — downstairs built for entertaining, upstairs where Faena's signature reds and blues return in full force. Step onto the balcony and those red-and-white umbrellas pop against white sand all the way down the beach. You could spend five days here without leaving and never run out of Miami glamour.
Dining, Theater, and Spa: What to Do Beyond Your Room
Faena's ambition doesn't stop at the rooms. Dinner alone is worth planning around: Los Fuegos by Francis Mallmann brings Argentine live-fire cooking outdoors; Pao by Paul Qui pairs ocean views with a room as dramatic as the lobby; El Secreto Omakase is the tiny, speakeasy-style sushi counter — reserve well in advance.
Then there's the Faena Theater: a gilded, red-draped jewel box that feels like a miniature European opera house — live vocals, dancers, and aerialists right up to your table, 18-and-over, tickets from around $100. Finish at The Living Room to see and be seen, or slip into the moodier Saxony Bar for a nightcap.
When the decadence catches up with you, the entire third floor belongs to Tierra Santa Healing House, a 22,000-square-foot spa with everything from massages and cryotherapy to a traditional hammam. Build in a spa morning. You'll need it.
Pricing, Perks, and How Faena Stacks Up
Faena sits at the top of the Miami Beach market, and the pricing reflects it. Multi-bedroom suites start around $3,500 per night; the penthouse opens at around $60,000, with rates climbing during peak season and events like Art Basel. Expect a nightly resort fee (currently around $65) on top of the room rate.
If you're traveling at this level, Faena offers more than a room. The penthouse can be bought out for private events, and the hotel's event team handles milestone celebrations, corporate retreats, and intimate gatherings at a scale most properties can't match. During Art Basel Miami Beach, Faena Forum next door — commissioned by Alan Faena — hosts some of the fair week's most talked-about programming, and the hotel draws the collectors, curators, and artists who make the week what it is. If you want to be at the center of the art world that week, Faena is the address.
Other five-star properties in Miami Beach deliver polished calm, neutral palettes, and a quiet retreat from the city. Faena delivers the opposite: design that arrives before you do, energy that doesn't clock out, and a lobby that feels like a scene at noon or midnight. If you're weighing your options, reach out — I know these properties firsthand and can tell you exactly which one fits the way you travel.
The question isn't which hotel is objectively better. It's what you want Miami to do for you. If your answer is full, unapologetic immersion in Miami Beach, Faena is where you belong.
Who Should Book Faena (And Who I'd Send Somewhere Else)
Faena is for travelers who want to feel like they're in Miami, not escaping from it — people who want an experience, who don't mind being seen, and who want the city's energy to reach them even from their room.
Faena sits in Mid-Beach — north of South Beach's most crowded stretch, but still close enough to dip into it when you want to. It's a quieter part of Collins Avenue, with a more residential feel and an actual beach day instead of a scene. You're not fighting for a cab down Ocean Drive, but a twenty-minute ride gets you there. If you want Miami's energy without the South Beach chaos, the location is part of the appeal.
Who isn't it for? Travelers whose idea of luxury is quiet understatement and a muted palette — for them, Faena will feel like a lot, and that's worth knowing before you book.
Families with young kids don't need to rule Faena out, but think it through. The energy skews adult, the design is sensory-rich, the theater is 18 and over, and the vibe leans toward nightlife glamour.
The Verdict — and How to Book It Right
Faena Miami Beach is perfectly overdone: glamorous but comfortable, luxurious but never stuffy, fun without tipping into gimmick. The design never wavers from the lobby to the penthouse, and the staff knows how to take care of guests at this level.
Faena is the kind of hotel that rewards the right planning. As a travel advisor with firsthand access to these rooms, I can secure the best available rates at Faena across every category, from the multi-bedroom suites to the penthouse. Beyond the rate, I can arrange a complimentary welcome amenity, room upgrade based on availability, early check-in and late checkout when the hotel can accommodate, and resort fee waivers on select bookings. And for clients considering a penthouse buyout, a milestone celebration, or an Art Basel booking, I know how to structure those requests so nothing gets left on the table.
