A Local's Guide to Christmas in Nashville: Two Paths to Holiday Magic

Nine acres of tropical gardens draped in millions of lights, flatboats gliding beneath a glowing canopy, and Victorian carolers on cobblestone streets — Nashville at Christmas is pure magic. Two extraordinary stays, one unforgettable season.

I grew up in Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville, and for eighteen years, Christmas wasn't something I watched from the outside. It was handbell choirs and garland-wrapped streetlamps, my mom performing at the Dickens of a Christmas festival while costumed characters straight out of a Victorian storybook wandered the cobblestone sidewalks around us.

Christmas meant driving up to Gaylord Opryland and stepping into those soaring glass atriums — nine acres of tropical gardens draped in millions of lights, with waterfalls roaring and flatboats gliding beneath a glowing canopy. The grand Christmas tree in the lobby was breathtaking every single year. But of course, as a kid, the gelato shop was the true highlight of any visit.

Now, as a luxury travel advisor, I get to share this place I love with travelers who want more than a generic holiday getaway. And when it comes to experiencing Nashville at Christmas, I present my clients with two beautifully contrasting paths — each one extraordinary, each one offering a completely different rhythm to the season.

Four Seasons Hotel NashvilleGingerbread men and snowflake cookies, decorated with white royal icing and dusted sugar, evoke the handcrafted warmth of a Nashville Christmas — a festive spirit that infuses the season whether you're savoring holiday sweets at the Four Seasons or wandering the Victorian streetscapes of Franklin's beloved Dickens of a Christmas.

Path One: Urban Elegance at the Four Seasons Nashville

If you're drawn to sophisticated city energy paired with world-class comfort, the Four Seasons Hotel Nashville is your anchor. Situated in the vibrant SoBro district (south of Broadway) with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Cumberland River, this property puts you steps from the best of Nashville's holiday season while wrapping you in refined, contemporary luxury.

Four Seasons Hotel NashvilleA thoughtfully appointed Premium Suite balances warmth and restraint — cognac leather, soft textiles, and city views through soaring glass panes.

The Four Seasons Nashville leans into the season beautifully. The elegant Carolers Dinner in the Grand Ballroom pairs live seasonal music with exquisitely curated courses, and some Christmas events are rumored to have a visitor from the North Pole. After brisk winter walks through the city, The Spa at Four Seasons offers restorative body rituals and luxurious facials framed by sweeping city views. And the winterized seventh-floor terrace provides the kind of quiet moment — river below, stadium lights beyond — that makes December in a great city feel cinematic.

What to do in Nashville at Christmas:

From here, Nashville's most iconic holiday experiences are close at hand. The Schermerhorn Symphony Center is a brief walk away, hosting stunning December performances like Holiday Voices with the Nashville Symphony and Chorus. Dedicate another day to Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, where the Holiday LIGHTS display transforms fifty-five acres of botanical gardens into miles of illuminated wonder — complete with s'mores pits and a beautifully decorated historic mansion, roughly twenty-five minutes from your hotel. And no Nashville Christmas is complete without the Grand Ole Opry's Country Christmas show, where legendary performers and rising stars share the stage beneath a canopy of festive lights — about twenty minutes northeast.

The beauty of staying at the Four Seasons is that you can design an itinerary anchored in comfort that gives each experience its own dedicated day. A slow morning, a spa treatment, and then an evening at the symphony. Concerts and Opryland, ending with a holiday serenade over wintertime classics.

Path Two: Countryside Hygge at Southall Farm & Inn

Now imagine something entirely different. Instead of a gleaming urban tower, picture a 325-acre luxury farm resort tucked into the rolling hills of Franklin. Southall Farm & Inn is a sanctuary — just sixty-two guestrooms and sixteen standalone cottages with private fireplaces, surrounded by orchards, greenhouses, and open pastureland dusted with winter frost.

At Southall, the season isn't something happening outside your window. It's woven into every detail of your stay. Mornings begin with complimentary yoga or soothing sound bath meditations. The Spa at Southall features a heated outdoor mineral pool that operates like a luxurious hot spring in the winter months, flanked by steam rooms and saunas with views of those frosted hills.

Southall Farm & InnA Southall guestroom balances rustic grandeur with refined comfort — exposed timber beams frame a hand-painted pastoral mural, while a teal leather headboard and statement chandelier anchor the space.

And then there's the food. Southall's farm-to-table culinary program is extraordinary — everything revolves around their active biodynamic farm and on-site greenhouses. Their Sounds of the Season dinner pairs multi-course meals with live acoustic music, and if your visit extends through Christmas Eve, the farm hosts a remarkable family-style feast featuring dishes like duck cassoulet with white beans and prime châteaubriand, all built from reimagined winter harvests. Even casual meals at their restaurant Sojourner feel elevated, with scratch-made dishes rooted in what the land is producing that week.

Moving your base to Franklin also transforms your proximity to certain holiday treasures. The beloved Dickens of a Christmas festival — the forty-first annual celebration in 2026 — sits just ten minutes away, making it effortless to slip into the Victorian street festival and retreat to your private cottage when you've had your fill. The newly renovated Factory at Franklin, a 270,000-square-foot design and culinary hub housed in a historic stove-and-mattress factory, is only twelve minutes down the road. Downtown Nashville and the Opry require a more dedicated forty-five-minute drive, but that's exactly the kind of logistics a great travel advisor can plan seamlessly into your itinerary.

Why Working with a Luxury Travel Advisor Changes Everything

Here's the part most travelers don't realize: how you book these properties matters enormously.

As a Preferred Partner with the Four Seasons, I unlock benefits you simply cannot access through public booking channels — complimentary breakfast, resort credits, room upgrades, early check-in and late checkout. Beyond those elevated amenities, I also have access to exclusive net rates that can sometimes save you thousands of dollars compared to the publicly available price. You get more for less, which is the kind of math that never gets old.

At Southall Farm & Inn, my relationship runs equally deep. LuxRally Travel is a Forbes-endorsed agency, and both the Four Seasons Nashville and Southall are Forbes-rated properties — which means I have direct connections with the management team at each. Through my non-public luxury advisor channels, I secure the same caliber of benefits: resort credits, priority upgrades, complimentary breakfast, and flexible check-in. But perhaps the most meaningful advantage is the personalized client profile I build before you ever arrive. Your preferences, your pace, your priorities — the staff already knows them when you walk through the door. That invisible, anticipatory service is what transforms a beautiful hotel stay into something that feels like it was designed entirely for you.
