The narrative of Rosewood Hotels commenced in 1979, with the conversion of a historic Dallas mansion into a renowned restaurant and hotel, The Mansion on Turtle Creek. This successful transformation set the precedent for all future Rosewood establishments.
Their vision was to curate a unique collection of luxurious, residential-style hotels, where each property would encapsulate a distinctive ambiance influenced by its location, culture, history, and geography.
Here are the notable events in Rosewood's timeline:
1971 - 1980
1979: Rosewood Hotels & Resorts comes into existence.
1980: Rosewood repurposes an antique mansion in Dallas into the acclaimed restaurant and hotel, The Mansion on Turtle Creek.
1991 - 2000
1993: Rosewood expands into the Caribbean with Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda, B.V.I, a project initially developed by conservationist and philanthropist Laurance Rockefeller.
1997: Rosewood inaugurates its first Mexico resort, the breathtaking Las Ventanas al Paraíso in Los Cabos.
1999: The Rosewood collection grows to include more than 10 properties.
2000: Rosewood announces the acquisition and management of The Carlyle, a landmark hotel in New York’s Upper East Side.
2001 - 2010
2005: Rosewood Hotels & Resorts commemorates its 25th anniversary.
2006: Rosewood establishes a presence in northern California with CordeValle, a top-tier golf resort in San Martin.
2007: Rosewood introduces Sense, its exclusive spa brand.
2010: Every property initiates Verdes, Rosewood's green initiative and commitment to value the Earth's resources and demonstrate environmental sensitivity. Simultaneously, the Rose Buds children’s program is launched at all hotels and resorts.
2011 - 2020
2011: Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver reopens after extensive restoration as Rosewood’s inaugural Canadian city hotel. The same year, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is bought by Hong Kong-based Rosewood Hotel Group (formerly New World Hospitality.)
2012: Announcements for Rosewood Beijing (opened 2014) and Rosewood Phuket signal expected robust growth in the region.
2013: Rosewood announces two new projects in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Bangkok, Thailand. It also secures management of the historic Hôtel de Crillon in Paris, set to reopen in 2017. Rosewood London opens its doors in October.
2014: Rosewood announces two new projects in mainland China: Rosewood Sanya and Rosewood Guangzhou. Rosewood Beijing opens in October, marking the first Rosewood property in China.
2015: Rosewood takes over management of Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany. Six new projects are announced in Puebla, Mexico; Luang Prabang, Laos; Edinburgh, Scotland; São Paulo, Brazil; Santa Barbara, California, U.S.; and Siem Reap, Cambodia.
2016: Three new projects are announced: Rosewood Hong Kong (2018), Rosewood Papagayo, Costa Rica (2019), and Rosewood Mandarina (2019). Rosewood assumes management of Rosewood Washington, D.C. on April 21. The innovative, holistic wellness concept Asaya is unveiled.
2017: Rosewood announces Rosewood Baha Mar opening in 2018 and Hoi An opening in 2019.
